‘Happy Ending’: A Sweet and Nostalgic Tale of Young Love

As early as January 2024, Strongberry released a short but heartwarming Korea BL mini-series called “Happy Ending,” depicting the story of two childhood friends, Hyun and Dongho, as they navigate their feelings for each other.

The first episode highlights Hyun, the owner of the bookstore, discovering his “heart” diary that he used during his high school days. As he flips through its pages, he reminisces about the past, when he had an unrequited crush on his close friend Dongho. As the flashbacks continue in the second episode, Hyun overhears that his crush mentioned that there’s a person he likes, leading him to suppress his feelings as Hyun continuously bonds with him. At its finale, Dongho asks Hyun to walk around, where he reveals he accidentally read his diary and wonders if the person he likes was him. At first, Hyun denies everything, but realization takes place. He runs away to find Dongho and confess his feelings, which leads us to an open ending where a man enters the bookstore and Hyun welcomes him.

The drama is a sweet and romantic tale of young love, with a touch of nostalgia as the characters reminisce about their past. The storytelling, performances of the cast, and beautiful cinematography truly encapsulate the essence of the story and make the fans hook! ‘Happy Ending’ consists of 3 episodes with 20 minutes total runtime and features Joe Seung-hyeok from ‘Choco Milk Shake’ and Park Jun Moo as Dongho and Hyun, respectively.

While the mini-series is relatively short, it manages to pack a lot of emotion and heart into its three episodes, letting the fans crave for more. Some know Strongberry is known for producing weird plots, short durations, and open endings, so they weren’t surprised, as the production nailed it. If you are looking for a quick Korean drama, this might suit you—it’s worth checking out!
