First Impression: Embracing Solace in ‘Gray Shelter’

The latest Korean BL web drama ‘Gray Shelter’ is now streaming!

‘Gray Shelter’, formerly known as ‘Gray Current’, is a five-episode web drama starring Lee Jae Bin from ‘Choco Milk Shake’ and Jang Woo Young. The drama just dropped its first two episodes with a 20-minute duration each, depicting the story of the young man and his stepbrother, who both live miserably. Thus, they will find solace and affection for each other.

The first episode opens with Cha Soo Hyuk, a technician, arriving to repair an air conditioner for a client, Lee Yoon Dae, who also happens to be his client’s boyfriend. Soo Hyuk appears hesitant to see Yoon Dae, who had previously requested a technician change. Despite Yoon Dae’s complaint, Soo Hyuk insists on completing the job and agrees to return the next day. That evening, Yoon Dae meets with friends for drinks, triggering a flashback to six years prior, revealing their unexpected connection as stepbrothers. Yoon Dae, lacking ambition, indulges in smoking and drinking, showing little interest in education.

Meanwhile, the second episode delves into Soo Hyuk’s past, showing him working various jobs like a convenience store cashier and substitute driver. Yoon Dae’s encounter with his father leaves him visibly shaken, especially when compared to Soo Hyuk, who grew up well despite their father’s absence due to imprisonment. Soo Hyuk, now a full-time technician, discloses his decision to drop out of school, viewing it as a waste of time. Discovering a box of apples left by his absent father near the trash, Soo Hyuk confronts Yoon Dae, reminding him of their estranged familial ties.

As the flashback concludes, Soo Hyuk resumes repairing the air conditioner, but Yoon Dae, resentful of his stepbrother, requests a new technician. This delay angers Yoon Dae’s girlfriend, Ji Hee, leading to a heated argument and her departure. Left alone, Yoon Dae unsuccessfully seeks refuge with a friend, whose girlfriend rejects the request. Meanwhile, Soo Hyuk discusses relocating with his mother, promising to help financially. When Soo Hyuk visits Yoon Dae’s place, he discovers his stepbrother has moved out, leaving him homeless.

The first two episodes of “Gray Shelter” sets the stage for an emotional rollercoaster ride right from the start. With a powerful portrayal of fear, anger, and resilience, the series delves deep into the human experience, leaving you eagerly anticipating the characters’ journey towards love and redemption. In addition, the cinematography serves you as if you are watching a movie along with the main actors’ commendable acting, and the original soundtrack adds layer to the storyline. Overall its must-watch for anyone craving raw emotion and compelling storytelling.
