Is ‘At 2500, In Akasaka‘ worth a watch? If you love a plot within a plot and intense chemistry between leads, the answer is a resounding yes!
‘At 2500, In Akasaka‘ is the first Japanese BL collaboration between GagaOOLala and TV Tokyo, which is derived from an original Japanese manga of the same name. In the first episode, we get introduced to Shirasaki Yuki (played by actor Niihara Taisuke) who is a rookie actor who has one foot out of the door of the acting world because he still has not gone anywhere. Despite his multiple auditions everywhere, Shirasaki is still working part-time at a Taiwanese restaurant and auditioning during his free time. This is in exact contrast to Hayama Asami (Kiita Komagine), one of the most popular actors to date, and Shirasaki’s senpai from school. However, as luck (or Shirasaki’s pure talent), the two find themselves starring in a gay drama together!
But of course, the audition was the easiest part of the whole process, because Shirasaki now has to understand the whole plot of the drama he’s about to star in. And in an effort to understand it, he finds himself in a gay bar to hook up with someone. But lo and behold! His co-star and senpai Hayama follow him there and tell him he is willing to be his sex partner for Shirasaki’s research! What will happen to the two and this “indecent proposal”?
The chemistry between the two actors is palpable and is definitely something that will hook you early on. The drama also stayed very true to the manga, which was a nice touch in itself, especially for manga fans. The pacing and line delivery was also just right; it does not feel like the story is dragging at all. One complaint that we may notice is the make-up of the actors, but it can be easily overlooked because of how well done the production is.
