Pulp Fiction’s Uma Thurman and ‘Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor have been tapped to star in the latest sapphic romance film ‘The Housekeeper’ with ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ star Anthony Hopkins.
‘The Housekeeper’ is set in the 1930s Cornwall, UK, where Danni (Thurman), a housekeeper at the grand and historic Manderville Hall— owned by the wealthy and widowed Lord DeWithers (Hopkins)— falls for the young and beautiful novelist and visitor, Daphne Du Maurier (Dynevor).
The movie is based on the short story of the same name published in the book called ‘The American Lover’ by Rose Tremain. ‘The Housekeeper’ fictionalized the events behind the writing of the classic gothic novel, “Rebecca” where the conflict between the two female characters in the novel was reinterpreted as a love affair in Tremain’s short story.
Helming the movie is director Richard Eyre who is behind some of the film masterpieces such as ‘Notes on a Scandal’ (2006), ‘The Children Act’ (2017), and ‘The Other Man’ (2008) among countless others.
