Is Francesca From ‘Bridgerton’ Asexual? Fans Weigh In

It seems like the ton has found something to gossip about once more!

Dearest gentle reader, another season has come for us, and unsurprisingly, a Bridgerton daughter has found herself to be the center of attention and the talk of the ton and the fans alike as viewers are convinced that Francesca Bridgerton is asexual.

The first four episodes of the hit romance period drama from Netflix has arrived and with it, new cast and characters, as well as storylines such as the introduction of the new actress, Hannah Dodds, for the character of the sixth Bridgerton child, Francesca.

Francesca is portrayed as an introverted girl who has an immense love for music, especially her piano. She prefers silence if music is not playing and views marriage as simply a passage right one must go through so she can continue playing piano.

Due to her demeanor and practical view on courtship with Lord John Stirling (Victor Alli), fans are wondering if she could be a part of the asexual community.

“As someone who is a romantic asexual I can’t help but see Francesca and John as fellow romantic asexuals as well. I can’t help it, I kept seeing myself in both of them and how they navigate their relationship. It’s not about sex with them…it’s just romance. #Bridgerton” one fan wrote.

Another fan said, “Thinking how John and Francesca are so autistic and ADHD coded. That scene between Fran and John where she tells him her thoughts on a musical piece and John quickly marches away as he looks at the player and later on we find out why he did that and I’m like…baby boy.”

If this becomes true for Francesca in the series, this won’t be the first queer representation as the series spin-off ‘Queen Charlotte’ already had an on-screen LGBTQ+ romance with Brimsley and Reynolds.

Fans of the book, however, contest that Francesca is definitely not asexual as her book, ‘When He Was Wicked’ is considered one of the most sexually explicit in the entire ‘Bridgerton’ octalogy.

Dodd explained through a Tudum interview that Francesca is more likely just introverted and “she’s just not excited about [getting married]. She just knows it’s her time and this is part of life, and here we go.”

We guess we’ll just have to wait for any confirmation on her character in the show when her season comes!

The first part of Bridgerton season three is streaming on Netflix. The second half of the series will be on the streaming site on June 13.
