Listen up, dear readers! A gay romance is brewing in this beloved Regency fantasyland!
As the new showrunner arrives in the halls of House ‘Bridgerton’ so is the possibility of a queer romance. Jess Brownell–who has been passed the baton after the departure of creator Chris Van Dusen–said in an interview with PRIDE magazine that queer inclusion in the series is her priority.
“This is a show about love in its many forms and I think that it’s only right for us to foreground queer love and to tell queer stories. I want to see more queer joy on my screens and that was a priority for me when I stepped into the showrunner role.”
It is noted that ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a spinoff of ‘Bridgerton’ that focuses on the bittersweet love story of King George III and Queen Charlotte, already portrayed a gay relationship between Brimsley (Sam Clemmett) and Reynolds (Freddie Dennis).
Clemments shared with Entertainment Weekly, “We’re both very proud to be able to tell the first LGBTQIA+ story within the Bridgerton-verse.”
Meanwhile, the woman of the hour this coming season, Penelope Featherington played by Nicola Coughlan, is also very vocal about her hope for the addition of queer plotline in the series.
