The world wasn’t ready for you Matt Bomer!

Amidst the booming industry of superhero flicks and cinematic universes in the late 2000s, Matt Bomer almost got to wear the iconic red cape of Superman but was dropped because of the rumors regarding his sexuality.

In an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, the blue-eyed hunk revealed that he was the director’s favorite for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in a project titled ‘Superman: Flyby’. The writers of the soap opera he was starring in then even wrote off his character as they also believed that the opportunity was too huge to pass for the actor during that time.

It is as if it was a done deal as the actor already signed a 3 movie deal with Warner Brothers.

However, the film was eventually shelved and Bomer candorly shared that he believed that his sexuality was one of the reasons why the project didn’t pan out.

“That was a time in the industry when something like that could still really be weaponized against you, how, and why, and who, I don’t know, but yeah, that’s my understanding,” said the actor.

It is noted that Bomer came out in 2012 as a gay man. He is currently in a happy marriage with publicist Simon Halls.

It is with great pleasure, nevertheless, that we report that Matt Bomer’s career did nothing but boom even without the superhero flick. He went on to star in various award-winning and critically acclaimed films and series with a Critics’ Choice Television Award, Golden Globe Award, and Peabody Award secured in his shiny resume.

Some heroes really don’t wear capes, huh?
