‘I Don’t Know’ is a French short film where three longtime friends ponder embarking on a threesome, except this attempt will only reveal much more than they thought.
Will they go through with it? What will they learn about themselves in the end? Read on to find out but fair warning though, spoilers ahead.
Alice, Wiliam, and Clément are three friends having dinner at Clément’s place. It’s a pretty intimate set-up: just them three laughing, talking, getting drunk, and chowing their meal as a vinyl plays in the background.
As the dinner ends, Alice, the only woman at the party, tells Wiliam and Clément that she enjoyed the delicious meal. Clément answers that it was a pretty simple dish and Wiliam pipes up, complimenting Alice for how beautiful she looks tonight. Alice says thanks and tells him that he has been generous with his compliments because it has been the third time since he said she looks radiant that night. Wiliam answers that once is not enough but Clément jokingly remarks that it’s because Wiliam is a blowhard. Alice laughs in response.
Clément asks Alice if she is interested in dessert or coffee and Wiliam butts in and says it depends on what kind of dessert it is. Alice, on the other hand, excuses herself and asks for the bathroom. Clément tells her where it is while Wiliam stands up to say that he will show her where exactly the toilet is. Alice humors Wiliam as he strolls to the toilet and shows her where everything is like an overexcited puppy as Clément watches them. Clément comments on Wiliam’s behavior and Alice says it’s okay before going inside.
Wiliam closes the door for her and cockily walks back to Clément who asks him what he is doing by hitting on Alice. Clément asks why he’s going after Alice when Wiliam has a girlfriend but Wiliam asks why he was invited for dinner if he was not allowed to flirt. That doesn’t make sense but, okay. Clément answers that Alice insisted that Wiliam came. Wiliam confidently says that maybe Alice likes him but Clément rebukes him and says he almost showed Alice how to pee. Wiliam says he was just being a gentleman but Clément rebuts that he’s actually a psychopath. Wiliam observes Clément and realizes that Clément likes Alice. Clément tries to deny and say he’s not sure but Wiliam insists that he does like Alice and proceeds to tease Clément.
The bathroom opens and spits out Alice in a red robe, standing sexily by the doorway. Clément is mesmerized. Wiliam tries for another compliment but struggles when Alice opens the robe and shows off her nude body. She sensually asks the two guys if they’re ready for dessert. Wiliam and Clément think that they’re the dessert she’s talking about. Clément finishes his wine.
Moments later, the three friends awkwardly sit side by side by side on the sofa in silence. Alice breaks the quiet and asks if Clément and Wiliam don’t want to kiss each other. The two guys vehemently refuse saying they don’t really want to do that but Alice says that she would really like for them to kiss and instructs Clément to stroke Wiliam’s cheek. Clément complies and tells Wiliam that he has a nice cheek. Alice asks if that’s how he does things usually and Clément replies he doesn’t usually caress his friend’s cheek. Clément starts to sulk but Alice placates him, saying she just finds that he’s not very curious to start with. Wiliam answers that he’s very curious and goes on a tangent about Saturn’s disappearing rings where meteorites crash on blocks of ice inside the rings and how in 30 million years there will be no more rings. Dork.
Clément calls it boring but Alice hushes him, saying it’s interesting. Alice says that she’s Saturn, points to Clément calls him a meteorite, and then refers to Wiliam as a block of ice. Alice tells them that meteorite and ice must kiss in order for Saturn to get wet (Ha! Who else is giggling?) Clément says it’s the worst metaphor he’s heard in his life. Alice tells them to kiss or it’s going to be hard for her to get horny. Wiliam seems to get the metaphor at last and has an aha moment. Alice starts to stand up to leave since the boys are obviously not ready for anything but Clément stops her and tells her that he and Wiliam will kiss.
