‘Total Drama Island’ star and writer Terry McGurrin happily shared that the animated TV series now has its first openly gay and first same-sex couple!
‘Total Drama Island’ is a Canadian TV cartoon series set in a fictional titular reality show based on popular ones like ‘Survivor’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’. It first aired in 2007 and had four seasons until 2014. Almost a decade later, it returns for its sixth season — also considered the first of its revival — with its first episode airing last April 10.
McGurrin, who plays the role of the show’s host, Chris McLean, and is also the executive producer, revealed his joy that the new season is featuring its first openly gay character, Bowie, and its first queer couple, Bowie and Raj.
“I love that we have our first openly gay character,” he said in a tweet. “Love that we have our first same-sex romance. Love that fans have shipped so many same-sex couples from current/previous seasons and share their art and theories! You’re all so creative and awesome.”
