Fate & Chance Encounter Through Music in “First Note of Love” Episodes 1 & 2

What will happen if you finally get a chance to work with your (handsome) long-time idol? Let’s find out in the first two episodes of Taiwanese BL ‘First Note of Love‘!

Episode 1. Magnet’s Rule of Attraction

Neil is a talented musician who is in a band called MAGNET with his equally talented brother, Matt. However, a tragic car accident took Matt’s life, leaving Neil to pause his activities for six years as a musician (most likely due to trauma). This did not bode well with ECHO Music’s agent and Neil’s agent, Reese, who has been trying to save his career. Neil refuses to cooperate with him and manages to escape a meeting with him after Reese insisted him to listen to a new song by a child prodigy named Sea.

Sea, a university sophomore, is a very talented musician who is passionate about his music. As fate would have it, the adult Sea meets the long-haired Neil at a restaurant while he is eating dinner with his boss from his part-time job, Liang, during a brawl started by some thugs harassing a woman. Liang, the girl, Neil, and Sea run away from the thugs and decide to split up. Neil and Sea ended up paired together and while hiding away, they accidentally shared a kiss! Neil just merely smirked at the incident while Sea walked away quickly to get away from the strange man.

As he was walking back home, he ran across his boss, Liang, once again. This was when he received the text that ECHO Music was excited to meet him. He asked Liang if he had responded to ECHO Music’s text earlier while they were at the outdoor bar where they work, and Liang just smiled, seemingly saying yes without saying it.

At home, Sea thinks about the text once again and remembers a fond memory during his teenage years when a younger Neil played him a song while they were at the park. He, then, decided that it may be a good idea to go to the meeting with ECHO Music, after all.

When he arrived at ECHO Music’s office, he was greeted by Mei, who let him in. But then… is that Neil?!

Episode 2. A Has-Been Singer

ECHO Music’s agent, Reese, welcomes Sea into the office and talks to him about making music. Sea was apprehensive at first, especially because he had never been a songwriter. Reese, however, mentions that he will be working with Neil from Magnet. Sea becomes excited at the very prospect of working with his idol and excitedly takes out his phone to say that he has been working on something for Neil. But as he was about to play the song, someone barges in the meeting room – that someone being the strange long-haired person that helped Sea through the brawl yesterday, which was actually Neil! Sea was surprised by this strange turn of events. He, however, was not very pleased when Neil started being rude towards him, leading him to walk out of the meeting saying that he did not want to work with a “has-been musician” like Neil. Sea leaves ECHO Music’s office, looking at the photo of Magnet on his wallet, feeling utterly disappointed.

Meanwhile, Neil was left standing in the meeting room, thinking of the last time he tried performing alone after his brother passed away. He passed out, ultimately making him pause his activities as a singer. As Reese was about to scold him, Neil asked him to give him a guitar.

After walking out from the meeting, Sea goes back to his university to meet up with his senior, Ting Fei, who was actually the same girl whom he tried to save at the restaurant brawl last night! The two talk and Ting Fei eventually asks for his help regarding an event that she needs to do for this weekend. She leads him to the music room and finds out that he can play the keyboard really well, but is not a talented singer.

Sea goes to his part-time job at Liang’s music bar and gets an eerie feeling that he’s being followed. Despite this, he still manages to successfully go to his part-time job, telling Liang that the meeting with ECHO Music did not go that well. But as they were preparing to open up, Neil somehow turns up at the music bar, much to Sea’s chagrin. Neil introduced himself to Liang, and the music bar’s boss was surprised that a famous person was at his humble music bar. Sea, however, was not too pleased, repeating in the mic that Neil is a has-been singer. As the night went on and people came into the music bar, Neil asked Liang if he could borrow the mic. He, then, started to sing. This surprised Sea as well as the other people in the bar.
