Episode 5: 1012

Yeon Woo continues to pester Woo Jae by following him around and serving him so he can focus better on his work. Woo Jae is unable to go forward with his writing one time because his favorite wine has run out, so he orders Yeon Woo to find the same one in an hour. Yeon Woo is lucky to acquire one from a restaurant owner after driving there, but Woo Jae brushes him off after returning since he exceeded the time limit. Though the reason might be he’s disappointed Yeon Woo did not recognize the meaning of the ‘1012’ (Yeon Woo’s birthday) on the bottle. We find out after Yeon Woo earnestly invites Woo Jae out near a lake that his mother died right after Woo Jae’s disappearance and that it was her death anniversary that day. This information opens a chance for closeness between the two with Woo Jae apologizing for being unable to go to his mom’s funeral and suggesting they drink his favorite wine together that night.

Episode 6: First Meeting

The two have an excellent time reminiscing about their past over wine before they get into another fight, which leads to Yeon Woo blurting out in frustration that he has been putting up with Woo Jae’s mistreatment while Woo Jae rebuts that Yeon Woo only cares about himself. In another flashback, it is shown that Yeon Woo went back to look for the hoodie Woo Jae gifted him but it’s obviously not there (Woo Jae took it upon seeing Yeon Woo forgot it) and instead of telling the truth, he tells Woo Jae that it is in the laundry, which in turn hurts Woo Jae because he knows the truth. After their argument, Woo Jae seemingly disappears again, therefore Yeon Woo goes back to his place to look for him. He’s shocked that Woo Jae’s door lock code is his birthday and the laptop code is the date of their first meeting.

Episode 7: Kiss-and-run

Woo Jae surprisingly comes back and the two instantly make up. Now that they are back on good terms, Yeon Woo urges him to go outside so he can refresh his mind. They sneak into a museum to take a quick look around the place before a guard forces them to cut their date short. Through a flashback to when they were close to graduating, we see that a kiss happened between the two, with Woo Jae initiating the kiss but quickly running away after apologizing. In the present time, the pair communicate their feelings through the characters of the novel. Additionally, we’re shown more of what happened right after the kiss wherein what followed was full of misunderstandings and lack of communication—which eventually led to the separation of the two. It is only then when Woo Jae begins crying that Yeon Woo starts to understand that the novel is their story.

Episode 8: Finale

They reconcile in front of a bonfire outside Woo Jae’s house and share exactly what happened in the past and how they both had their individual circumstances. They pour out their feelings, expose their flaws and accept each other’s reasons. Woo Jae wants to explain but Yeon Woo suddenly kisses him and reassures him that he already knows. Woo Jae is finally able to finish his novel and hands it over to Yeon Woo who delivers it to his company for review. Woo Jae nervously waits for the turnout when his manager arrives at his house to deliver the news that the feedback of the last chapter at their company was good. His manager sees him smile for the first time and they discuss the production of the novel while on Yeon Woo’s side, he’s determined to bring the story to life, even proposing to his boss to have his wages cut. The two meet at the tree of love depicted in Woo Jae’s novel, wherein they promise to do the script of the novel together. Yeon Woo demands a condition that they should finish the script in one month—he would need to live in Woo Jae’s place. While Woo Jae also states his condition, which is for Yeon Woo to stay outside while he is there, except for when it rains. Like a miracle, it starts to rain while they’re working on the script, and they take a break and share a kiss under the rain.

How the story reveals bits and pieces of the history between the characters feels like piecing together a puzzle that will make you feel satisfied in the end. The novel becomes the communication and connection between the two. Using the novel’s characters as the counterpart of Woo Jae and Yeon Woo was a unique way to narrate and make progress in the unfolding of the relationship they have after their reunion. The two will now continue to walk together till the end.
